DB Schenker expands its Dubai logistics

DB Schenker has begun construction on its upcoming facility in Dubai Logistics City which plans to offer general cargo warehousing, distribution and value-added services.

The state-of-the art logistics centre will have a warehouse space of 8,500 square meters and a total storage capacity of 8,500 pallet positions with two mezzanine levels dedicated for value added services and spare parts operations.

It will contain temperature-controlled areas as well as ambient temperature zones to suit the different customer needs.

The logistics centre is located in the freight forwarding area in Dubai World Central with direct access to the new Al Maktoum International Airport in Dubai, which is designed to be the world’s largest airport with an annual capacity of twelve million tons of cargo and 160 million passengers upon completion, and to the land side of the free zone allowing access to the sea port of Jabal Ali.

“The services offered combined with the optimal location of the facility will enable a smooth and accelerated flow of sea-to-air and air-to-sea cargo transportation, thus facilitating our customers’ goods movement in their global supply chain,” said Ako Djaf, DB Schenker Logistics, Regional Head of Contract Logistics / SCM, Region Near Middle East/Africa.

The main goods to be processed in the warehouse are automotive, industrial spare parts as well as fashion items. Operations will have a focus on value-added services.
