How to Work From Home

We have put together 4 simple yet fantastic tips to help you prepare and become more efficient when you work from home.
How to Work From Home

For some working from home is the norm, for others, it is an entirely new experience. Since a great deal of us has been forced to work from home over the past years, due to the COVID-19 Pandemic, we have put together 4 simple, yet fantastic tips to help you prepare and become more efficient when working from home.

Communication

Communication is key. Most importantly, for your own sanity! And to make sure you are doing what is expected of you. Keep in close contact with your colleagues and management, discussing work for the upcoming week. Never hesitate to seek feedback from your colleagues and then plan accordingly around this.

But most importantly, check in on your colleagues, make sure they are OK and see if they require any help. It is important to interact as you would if you were in the office. That 5-minute chat by the water cooler is OK and should be no different when you are working from home. Remember, a good relationship with your colleagues is essential to an efficient team, do not become strangers.

Track your Tasks

Working from home can lead to distractions or procrastination you have not faced when working in the office. There can be many reasons behind this.

Therefore, planning out your day each morning and tracking your tasks as you work on them will help you maintain a positive work ethic throughout the week. Setting deadlines is important and will ensure you stay on track.

Organisation

Treat your work area at home the same as you would in the office. Just by keeping it clean and organised, you can help reduce stress, stay ahead of tasks and stop yourself from getting buried under.

Take a Break

Working from home can be stressful. If you do not take a break and get away from your workstation, it can start to affect your own time. Take a 5-minute break every now and then, take a walk and most importantly, take lunch. Just because you are at home, does not mean you should sit at your desk until the end of the day, this will help you to lower stress levels and remain productive.

Note from Author, Caroline Seear

Working from home can be stressful as it comes with a set of unique challenges that many were probably not ready for. However, if you prepare, get organised and adapt it can also be a flexible and efficient way to work.
