International Transport Manager – Dover (England)

Our client is a provider of international imports and exports to and from the UK, and they are currently looking for an International Transport Manager to join their busy team in Dover. The successful International Transport Manager will receive a salary of up to £55k depending on experience.

The general purpose of the role is to promote company values and code of conduct when engaging with all relevant stakeholders, adhere to company rules / policies / procedures constantly and encourage, maintain up-to-date knowledge of legislation impacting on your role, and maintain accurate and up-to-date records ensuring that confidentiality is applied.

We are looking to speak to candidates who have 3 years International Transport Management / Senior Planner experience of 3rd party traction operations on full and part load movements throughout the UK and EU, a minimum of 8 years International Planning experience with particular focus on own fleet / 3rd party traction operations, and the ability to understand the complexities of planning +100 vehicles throughout Europe.

Key Responsibilities of the International Transport Manager:

Manage the FTL Fleet Department (consisting of +100 trucks of 3rd party traction hauliers) & the Groupage department, ensuring that the DVI operational processes, procedures & company policies are adhered to.
Assess staff performance & provide coaching / guidance to ensure maximum efficiency & high level of service, consistent with customer expectation, throughout the UK & EU.
Profit & Loss responsibility for both departments.
Commercial awareness of European Export & Import pricing to complete UK customer & Group tenders.
Provide ad hoc pricing based on Fleet costings or using Groupage tariffs for smaller shipments.
Manage & monitor Fleet performance, providing weekly reports to Planners & Senior Management.
Supervise & control all aspects of the daily operation, ensuring that collection & deliveries are carried out as per customer’s instructions.
Timely & effective communication between all stakeholders (Internal & External).
Use own initiative to make decisions relevant to your areas of control.
Holiday & Sickness Cover to be provided for the Transport Desks.
General admin.
Commercial representation.
Any other tasks, as & when required.

Other requirements from the International Transport Manager:

Able to communicate in another European language is desirable.
Able to compile & collate data.
Proven experience in a people facing role.
IT literate in Microsoft Office packages.
Experience of leading a team &/or working towards a Level 3 Management or equivalent qualification.
Able to support, motivate & coach staff to maximise individual & team performance.
Competent in using own initiative & maximise resources to source effective solutions.
Capable in working to fluid targets & deadlines.
Proven verbal, written, mathematical & communication skills.
Able to remain calm under pressure & deal with difficult customer conversations / internal stakeholder demands.
Willing to undertake training that may be required for the role.
