Seafreight Import & Airfreight Operator – Bury (England)

Our client, a provider of air freight, sea freight and international courier services, are currently looking for an Import Operator to join their team in Bury, to provide Import services to all Customers across air, ocean and courier modes, ensuring that high levels of customer service and company values are maintained at all times. To receive and process customer bookings in a timely fashion, building relationships with customer and overseas partners, to gain trust and become customer preferred supplier.

Main duties of the Import Operator:

Manage all aspects of the sea freight import process – both LCL and FCL shipments.
Obtain and communicate, internally and externally, all necessary information to ensure correct measures are in place and customer needs are met.
Liaise between suppliers, overseas offices and agents to obtain up to date shipment information.
Be proactive by ensuring customers are fully informed of the progress of their shipments.
Provide transport companies with the relevant information to ensure customer delivery requirements are met.
Ensure correct documentation is on file and act accordingly as set out in the instructions.
Maintain all files ensuring they are costed and billed correctly in accordance with procedures provided by management.
Maximise profits for the department by obtaining optimal buying rates and keeping operational errors to a minimum.
Monitor carrier performance to ensure all shipments move as agreed to the customer requirement.
Understand and use the current carrier rates to ensure achieve a positive margin.
Ensure all invoices raised include all costs incurred and are charged as per the agreed rates.

Experience Required for the Import Operator:

Previous experience managing start to finish ocean freight shipments.
Import/exports.
Multi modal experience an advantage – airfreight / oceanfreight.
Knowledge of import customs requirements.
Invoicing.
Rate negotiations.
Liaising with Customs and suppliers.
Providing first class customer service.
Attention to detail.
Strong team player.
Ability to work on own initiative.
Committed and hard working.
