Shipping Operations Clerk – Derby (England)

Our client, a leading designer brand, are currently looking for a Shipping Operations Clerk to join their Shipping & Logistics team for either their DC in Derby, or their offices in London. The successful Shipping Operations Clerk will receive a salary of £25-27k depending on experience, plus benefits.

This is a fantastic opportunity to get involved in managing a complex omni-channel network going through major strategic changes.  The ideal candidate will have intermediate to advanced experience in a shipping retail environment with strong analytical and relationship building skills.

Duties of the Shipping Operations Clerk:

Liaise between logistics, shipping, merchandising, wholesale and warehouse teams to ensure a smooth delivery daily.
Collaborate with colleagues and external partners to improve efficiency, productivity and processes.
Ability to establish, maintain and develop relationships with other departments.
Assess current supply chain performance; help surface improvement opportunities that can deliver value by making the shipping operations more effective, efficient and well controlled.
Lease in a timely manner with freight forwarders/couriers to arrange collections/deliveries from both suppliers and customers.
Organize marketing/gift with purchase, shop fits and any non-sales items to be shipped from source supplier to destinations, and to be distributed efficiently to the final recipients.
Arrange courier consignments.
Organize returns and reprocessing.
Assist Shipping & Logistics projects, including shipping operations in the USA and Hong Kong.
Support the shipping team and wider business in all tasks and projects assigned to you.
Monitor and collect data on various shipping functions.
Produce all shipping documentation – COO / EUR1 and/or invoice endorsement with London Chamber of Commerce, Cross trade arrangement for fabric and trims.
Investigate, resolve and process shipment discrepancies.
Have a good understanding of shipping operation’s performance and targets.
Authorize forwarders and courier invoices on the company’s system with accurate information, cross checking with quotes and issue of debit notes for shortages.
Document revised business processes and agreed target standards.
Testing technology applications.

Experience required for the Shipping Operations Clerk:

Proven experience within a similar role within Shipping and Logistics.
Track record of working within an imports and exports shipping department structure.
Working knowledge of INCOTERMS (DDP, FOB, FCA).
Ability to understand and interpret customs documents and processes (C88, CFSP, E2).
Advanced Microsoft Excel skills: VLOOKUP’s, pivot tables, analysing large sets of data, cleaning data.
Being a fast learner who is computer literate: Knowledge of Microsoft Dynamics AX, MS Office (especially Outlook and Word) is advantageous.
Well organised, and process driven.
Have strong analytical skills and be detail orientated.
Have an enthusiastic and positive attitude that works well under pressure and to tight deadlines.
A strong work ethic with excellent attention to detail which is applied to all daily tasks.
Be a strong team player with strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
Be a reliable and dependable member of the team.
