Is your Supply Chain Talent jumping ship?

questionsQuestions, to stop your Logistics Talent jumpin’ ship!

You’ve just heard about a Facebook rumour that your “Gun” warehouse supervisor has been approached by your competition down the road, to supervise all there team leaders.

Initially you’re worried,

…then annoyed,

…and finally pissed off big time!

You have spent the best part of 2 years investing in this Talent since he or she were identified as “a potential”, from the assorted pickers and packers from the casual staff pool!boss

The time,

The money,

The effort

And mostly the disappointment…they could have made your company shine!

So why did/will they leave?

exitAsk them!

You may get some reasons other than what you expect.

Maybe it wasn’t the usual salary and leave entitlements reason i.e. “They pay more”.

If they are leaving to go to the “same ‘ole” distribution centre but under a different companies branding and products then something went hay wire with your staff development, mentoring or…the lack of it.

Did the “now departed’ Talent get a planned pathway for their development?

Did it cover not only the technical or “hard” business skills but also the “people skills”?training

Were they bored with the program? Did it challenge them enough?

Did they have opportunity to stretch themselves and “kick goals”, and also to fail as well?

What was the support like for them? Did they get the appropriate mentoring regularly?

Were other senior managers on board with this process?

Were there jealousies?

Sometimes despite all your good intentions, your Talent might just want to see what’s over on the other side of the fence.

thanksIf that person has acknowledged and appreciated what your company has done for them, then chances are that at some point they’ll come back.

It may be a small but not insignificant consolation that, the ex-employee will say good things about your operation…and maybe to the opposition’s suppliers and customers!
It’s never a loss investing in your people, most will stay if there needs are being met.listening

You just need to ask them…and then listen.

The ROI on this will be immeasurable.

All Ears!
